These professionals have showcased a type of talent that elevates the mundane and transform it into art that communicates, evokes and conveys feelings and ideas alike. We celebrate the men and women that have made inroads into Canada’s art scene in various disciplines.
ARI DE LA MORA
With a strong influence of the female portrait she reflects classical and modern interpretations juxtaposed with cultural anthropology themes. Ari's artwork had been exhibited in a group and individual exhibitions in Vancouver, United States and Mexico. Passionate about culture, cultural anthropology and spaces that promote connections between cultures and communities, Ari has collaborated with the Museum of Anthropology, the City of Vancouver, the Granville Island Cultural Society, the Vancouver Mural Festival, UBC department of Latin American Studies and the Consulate General of Mexico with cultural projects, art workshops, seminars and talks.
alex alegria
Mr. Alegria is the Founder and Director Mariachi Los Dorados a group of 12 musicians that have been playing together since May 5th 2003 and recorded 4 full length albums. He produced his first Canada International Mariachi Festival in 2007. That was followed by festivals in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017. Alex’s dream of promoting the culture of his homeland has resulted in a festival that is known internationally and respected by all who have participated in these events. In the last few years Alex has been invited to present talks and seminars about mariachi music and history of mariachi in public and private schools including high schools, colleges and universities. Alex is a musician, songwriter, actor and entrepreneur.
ESTHER FRID
Ms. Frid is a seasoned professional whose career in Vancouver extends for more than three decades. She has worked for Family Services of Greater Vancouver serving the needs of the hispanic community. She is the recipient of the “Safe the Future Award” provided by the Province of British Columbia for her research work on violent men that resulted in educational training materials used in community workshops for vulnerable groups. She is the author of several books and publications in a wide range of topics, to name a few: cultural adjustment and settlement, conflict resolution, parenting and immigration. Some personal literary works include “El Atardecer de la Vida” and “El Ritmo de mi Vida” exploring the life of Latin American immigrant women.
ROSARIO ANCER
After enjoying a successful career in Spain, Mexican born Rosario Ancer and her Vancouverite husband guitarist Victor Kolstee moved to Vancouver in 1989, where they co-funded their school Centro Flamenco, the Vancouver International Flamenco Festival, The Flamenco Rosario Arts Society Flamenco Rosario and its Professional Training Program.Called by the press The Mother of Flamenco in Vancouver, she Received the 2009 Isadora Award for Excellence in Choreography given by The Dance Centre on behalf of the BC Dance Community, for her contributions in bringing excellence in dance to British Columbia and creation of her autobiographical work Mis Hermanas. She was honoured with the 2012 Mayor’s Dance Arts Award for enriching the lives of Vancouverites, and more recently with the 2016 Lola Award for her progressive and risk-taking artistic spirit and unflagging dedication to the art of flamenco.
Rosario Ancer has just been announced as an inductee to the 2020 Dance Collection Danse “Hall of Fame”.
ERIK CAUDILLO
Erik Caudillo was born on March 20, 1990 in CDMX, Mexico. He is a renowned photographer, videographer, director, and editor of his brand, Fulltime Dreamers. He has produced award-nominated visual content for multiple prestigious events and music festivals around the world. Erik also collaborates with the top tour companies in Canada and Mexico, to produce films reflecting the beauty of these destinations. He is currently working on Fulltime Dreamers to launch a massive movement: an elite, beautiful, and unique apparel brand to inspire people around the world to pursue their dreams.
